Hallmarking is Mandatory
- Gold jewellery and gold artefacts from June 16, 2021, hallmarking is mandatory.
- Hallmarking of Gold jewellery and gold artefacts are only mandatory in 256 districts of India.
- From June 23, 2021, in these 256 districts, gold jewellery and gold
- Artefacts Will be sold only by jewellers registered with BIS.
- From June 14, 2018, for those who choose to sell hallmarked jewellery, jewellers have to follow the BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS (HALLMARKING) REGULATIONS, 2018.
- Hallmarking of gold jewellery and gold artefacts is mandatory in 288 districts from June 1, 2022.
Orders By the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution
- Order No. SO2102 (E) dated 01.06.2021 issued by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. Gold jewellery and gold artefacts as per Compulsory Hallmarking (Amendment) Order, 2020 dated 01.06.2021 Compulsory hallmarking as per order 5.0 before SO2102(E) from 1st June 2021 Had to be effective. As per SO 205(E) dated 15-01-2020 mandatory Hallmarking is to be done on 9-10-2020. Order SO2102(E) dated 09.10.2020, Gold Jewellery and Gold Artifacts hallmarking are Mandatory as per Hallmarking act, 2020. Hallmarking was to be effective from 15 January 2021 as per Order SO. 205 (E) dated 15.01.2020.
